Topics on mitochondrial DNA?
I’m assisting my professor in writing a chapter of his book ‘genetic and epigenic environmental toxicology’. He has given me a brief outline of what the mtDNA chapter should concern but I am having a hard time finding some good literature on these topics. Does anyone know of any relevant articles or can offer any insight to these topics? The outline is below ( I especially need help with the starred topics):
Damage to mitochondrial DNA
Mitochondrial DNA repair
*Heteroplasmy
Rearrangements of mitochondrial DNA
Consequences of mitochondrial damage
*energy production
*Carciongenesis
*Myopathies
Oxidative Stress
*Analysis Methods
*Case Studies / applicability to ecotoxicology

help pls!! have they got me by the balls or can i fight this?
i’ve recently had some bad news i’ve been diagnosed with HCM (hypotrophic cardio myopathy) its a genetic heart defect.
so we’ve started to get my finances in order, won’t go through it all but we’ve hit a real problem when we rang the mortgage people with whom i have critical illness cover, the lady was very nice and initially said yes this is no problem you are indeed covered for this…….then there was a little pause and she returned to say ….erm ..sorry no.. in fact you are not covered you took your most recent policy out in 2002 (i have 2 policies one from 2000 one from 2002) and HCM wasn’t added to the policies until 2003.
so am i screwed over here or can i do something about this i’m really worried for my family and our future please can you give me some good advice and help please??
sorry HCM has been added to new policies since 2003 and not added to mine which was pre 2003 (sucks big time)!!
No! i think you’ve got this wrong please read the question.. i know i’m not covered i only have to ring them and i’m sure they’ll tell me again (i know you know nothing of my policy and the finer details)!!
what i’m asking is there a chance i can fight this?? there must be something in this for them to add the condition to there policies post 2002 so can i contend it? is there a chance if i seek legal advice?? have you heard of anyone doing this??
please can you help me here and please dont start your answer with ” Wow my cat has this” i really didn’t know if this was some wierd joke that i dont really get or if this answerer was being genuine.

Does anyone know anybody or their selves who have neuropathy, myopathy? Muscle spasm seizures, loss of feeling in legs on and off, muscle atrophy, with myelin sheath depletion, loss of balance, coordination. When they grab onto something they cant let go unless they really think about what they are doing?? Feels like they are stepping in pot holes and like the floor is falling out from underneath you. Hot sensation in legs, like fire ants are biting you.
Please answer if you know anything at all, this is very important, its for my dad..please and thank you!

Ventilator question: Do agitated limb movements occur during a “CPAP trial” or “weaning off” trial?
…for an otherwise nonmoving relatively sedated patient?
Also, does the ventilator at all cause edema to the extremities or is it entirely due to preexisting cardiac myopathy?
Do you know of any guides on the internet that I can read on the ventilator…it’s not an easy bit of good information to find. I don’t know of any brand names, so if you could suggest that, that would help me search the web. Thanks.
I appreciate your reply Fred F… I don’t know how many people actually have worked with the ventilator to even reply…(sigh) but your reply is helpful.

the dangers of the new monster energy drinks with nitrous oxide?
I tried one of the new monsters with nitrous oxide in it last night…usually energy drinks get me really wired, so my boyfriend bought it and i decided to drink it to get really hyper cuz it seemed high powered. but then i started feeling really weird.
light headed, dizzy, it was difficult to breath and occasionally my heart beat would cause dull sharp pains. i came home and i had a 101 temperature.
i also have cardio-myopathy, a heart condition. and the fever is gone today, but i find it difficult to breath, and alot of pressure on my chest.
is this because of the energy drink?

This is for real, so only serious answers please!?
I have both COPD and Cardio Myopathy, because of having both I have been told a transplant is not an option for eighter my Heart or Lungs. 5 years ago, I was given 5 years to live. I have put my life in order and am retired collecting Social Security. I am 45 years old with a 16 y/o son. My wife jumped ship a few years ago and now I live alone, yet spend alot of my time with family. Both conditions are untreatable without a transplant so I’m screwed there. I have been recieving medication which helps and I feel I may last a few more years. The process of dying from COPD is long and painful, I have thought of suiside and don’t want to suffer. What would you do?
