I’m living in rural Cambodia and don’t really know the best way to get information about Malaria.

What is the age range of someone who has malaria, more specificly how old do people that have Malaria die?

I remember when I went to Sri Lanka once and some of our relatives had gone with us. We had taken malaria tablets but they thought there wasn’t a risk.

Sure enough, 2 weeks later they had malaria. However, our relatives who had lived there all their lives had never had any problems with malaria (we had about 200 or so relatives there!)

How come the relatives aren’t affected but tourists normally are?

(Btw – the relatives we went with had lived in Sri Lanka about 10 years before)
I understand they could sort of develop an immunity but what about my relatives, who had only left Sri Lanka 10 years ago or so. Surely anything they had wouldn’t have gone so quickly?
lol! No suitti, most of my relatives did not even know what malaria was!

How would you explain to a kid 8-11 what malaria is?

Malaria was eradicated in the south Indian state of Kerala in the 1965. The desease was not reported till the year 1968. I want to know what were the measures taken to eradicate the disease of malaria.Even now the rate of malaria reported in kerala is very less. I want to know the what measures they are still continuing to controll the disease

Hi, Im doing a humanities project and I would just like to know a little bit about methods of stopping malaria, both being used and those that haven’t been employed yet.

I have particular interest in Africa and South America, but information on any areas would be very helpful.

My girlfriend has recently been taken into hospital and no-one knows what’s wrong with her. The hospital took bloods to test for Malaria and came back within 24hrs saying that she was clear, however I have heard from other sources (without any evidence yet) that it can take up to 2 months for the blood cultures to grow.

Can someone please answer with a link to a trusted source stating how long it should normally take?

I am going to Honduras on Wednesday and I completely forgot to get my malaria pills. I got all of my immunizations. No doctors office will write me a prescription without an exam, and none of them can get me in before I leave. I called a couple of urgent cares, but they couldn’t help me either (why not? This is urgent to me!) Malaria is a serious problem in the rural parts of Honduras, which is practically everywhere and I want the pills.

What kind of climate do the parasites that cause malaria live in?
If I cam correct, it is a tropical or sub-tropic environment right?
