Hello everyone. An adult woman I know has both leukemia in advanced stages and a bad liver, I think more than half of it is useless. Would you say there is hope for her other than liver transplant? What book or articles or information do you recommend she read about alternative cures or treatments for this in hopes to save her life? Thanks!

My mother may have chronic myeloid leukemia, and one of the ways of treating it is a bone marrow transplant.

Who are usually the closest matches for donors? Can children be a close enough match (usually) to be a donor?

Once a donor is found, what happens?

I am very worried, and would like to know what my chances are of being able to help my mother. I would like to know what may be in store for her, and how I can help her prepare in every way. I would also like to know how the transplant affects the donor so I may prepare, if I am a match.

Thanks everyone for your answers! My cat has already been vaccinated for feline leukemia, my parents did this when they had him neutered, but they said that they did not have him tested. What would happen to a cat if they had leukemia already and ended up taking a shot for it?
Thanks for all the answers I am wondering one more thing: Let’s say my cat is a carrier of leukemia and hasn’t shown signs of it yet, would a test show that he has leukemia? or would I have to wait to have him tested in order to find out?

Do Leukemia and Lymphoma have VERY similar symptoms, and can you get swollen Lymph Nodes from Leukemia? What causes them in Leukemia. Also, what are the least and most common types of Leukemia and Lymphoma in a teenager. If their symptoms arn’t similar what’s different about them?
