could be asking street directions, could be talking about anything, doesn’t that imply you’d be talking as if with an old friend.

the meaning (the suggestion that if you were discussing UFOs you wouldn’t necessarily be talking as if to an old friend) is absurd, so I’m wondering if the absurdity shows up in the grammar.

Yeah theres a slight chance of getting that disease TPS or Kuru from eating human meat, but it’s just as likely, if not more likely to get diseases from eating cow or chicken meat. Other than that whats so bad about it?

informal – “i dont want to come” – “hoshikunai kuru” … or “kite hoshi kunai”
formal – “i dont want to come” – “hoshii kimasen” or “kitehoshii shimasen”

informal “i didn’t want to come” – “hoshikunakatta kuru” … or “kitehoshiikunakatta”
formal – “i didn’t want to come” – “hoshii kimasen deshita” or “kitehoshii shimasen deshita”

or if you want to just write what is correct, that’s cool too.

Am I missing something.

I would have thought it was rather important, if talking to a total stranger, to talk as if talking to an old friend.
